eira's chilli

my 'canadian grandma' had the best chilli- it was sweet rather than spicy which suits my taste quite well! i only wish lucy could have met her.

eira was good at sharing her recipes; she even gave me a three-ring recipe binder to fill. i'm glad i had the chance to make chilli with her and now i'm able to make it for my own family- lucy likes the beans ♥

i'm sure eira wouldn't mind if i share the recipe with you:

ingredients:
-1 onion
-1 green pepper
(-i snuck in some carrots and celery as well- the more hidden the veggies are, the more likely lucy is to eat them!)
-1 big can of crushed tomatoes
-1 big can of red kidney beans
-2 small cans of brown baked beans (i remember calling her from the grocery store asking specifically which ones to buy... in sauce? spicy? which brand?- she laughed and said "oh i don't know, just get the brown ones")
-1 small can of sliced mushrooms
-500 g ground beef
-4 or 5 tbs chilli pepper powder
-ketchup or hot ketchup
-chilli sauce
-2 tbs vinegar
-paprika
-salt & pepper

cook the ground beef. sautée the onion and green pepper. mix it all together. boil it- the longer the better (i use a crockpot and have it on low for 6-8 hours)

everything was added to taste- she knew what tasted good and that was that.

happy birthday eira ♥
