felted wool billy buttons ♥

please continue reading for instructions and details...

wool felting has always been a popular craft in finland - so popular that they even teach it in school, both needle felting and wet felting.

my aunt gave me a lesson on felting while visiting four years ago. i loved the process and the results so much that i came home with felting supplies galore... but i really haven't done very much with it... turns out my hands get quite itchy working with it (though i can easily wear a wool sweater and socks... go figure...)

at some point while i was pregnant and decorating the baby's room, i was looking to buy billy buttons at one of our local flower shops... but no one seemed to carry them. that was when i thought of making them... they're such a simple and sweet little shape... i remembered my first 'lesson' with my aunt as she taught me how to make felt balls... i had the perfect shade of yellow wool to use... but somehow never got around to actually making them...

until well over two years later... yup...

now my little billy buttons sit in an old glass bottle by my first picture of lucy ♥
